The Water Treadmill at Higher Farm is the ultimate in equine hydrotherapy. Our equipment, suppled by Aqua Equine Treadmill Ltd, is a marketing leading system that has seen thousands of horses throughout the UK, Ireland and America brought to peak fitness, suppleness, and successfully return from injury.
How does it work?
The water works to reduce the concussion experienced by the legs, which in turn, promotes the safe strengthening of muscles and tendons in a secure environment.
The horse has to work hard against the increased resistance of the water, the benefits of which can be seen on dry land, through an increased stride length and suppleness through the back. Thus helping to build muscle in the top-line. In addition, it works to tighten core stomach muscles and the ligaments around the stifle, as well as giving a successful cardio vascular work-out.
The water provides a degree of buoyancy and support around the limbs, adding additional support and reducing the chance of injury. Furthermore, for those horses recovering from tendon problems, the cold water on the lower limbs provides a massaging and cooling effect, thereby promoting effective healing.
Where appropriate for their care, for those horses returning to work from injury, it can also add an element of interest back into their routine, taking them away from the monotony of being walked in-hand every day and offering them a new, but safe, challenge.
In all cases our experienced staff work alongside you to understand the aims of each session and to suggest the most appropriate method for your horses needs. In rehabilitation cases our staff work alongside your vet to ensure that injury needs are supported.
Benefits of a water treadmill session
A FMBs combi-floor is available at Higher Farm. As part of our treatment packages, it is important to us that we take a holistic view to treatments. So not only are we able to offer our water treadmill and cold water spa, we can also aid rehabilitation and prevent injury through the use of our combi-floor.
